As an optometrist, I meet many people on the verge of losing their sight. Sometimes, it’s simply about the right glasses. Other times, it’s about finding and treating the root cause.
For years, preventing blindness has been my quiet mission. No one should live in darkness when help is possible.
It usually begins with a thorough eye exam — catching glaucoma early, supporting someone with diabetes, or simply being present with care.
It isn’t always easy. But watching someone regain their vision… it’s like watching them reclaim their independence. That moment is worth everything.
My hope is that one day, preventable blindness will be a thing of the past. Until then, I’ll keep showing up, doing all I can to protect the gift of sight.
